Hainan Island International Film Festival calls for entries

3rd Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) is a large cultural festival which is hosted by China media group and the People’s Government of Hainan Province. Hainan enjoys the advantages from the policy of constructing The Pilot Free Trade Zone and Free trade Port with Chinese characteristics, with the visa-free policy for entry tourism of 59 countries, and shows its warm welcome to the artists from all over the world.

Relying on the advantages of geographical environment and top tourism resort resources, HIIFF is the one of the most romantic and diversified Island Film Festival in China.

Filmmakers and documentary directors can submit their work to an international film festival. 

Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) 2021 will take place in Hainan, China in early December.

Films completed after Aug. 15, 2020, are eligible for submission. Films must have English subtitles unless all dialogues in the film are in English.

Films meeting the following qualifications are eligible for Golden Coconut Awards Feature-length Film category:

  1. Feature-length fictions completed after August 15, 2020, and have not been submitted to previous editions of Hainan Island International Film Festival in any other form or version;
  2. The minimum running time is 70 minutes;
  3. Films accepted to the competition must be in DCP (Digital Cinema Package) format that meets industry standard for theatrical screening.

Films meeting the following qualifications are eligible for Golden Coconut Awards Feature-length Documentary category:

  1. Feature-length documentaries completed after August 15, 2020, and have not been submitted to previous editions of Hainan Island International Film Festival in any other form or version;
  2. The minimum running time is 70 minutes;
  3. Films accepted to the competition must be in DCP (Digital Cinema Package) format that meets industry standard for theatrical screening.

Films meeting the following qualifications are eligible for Golden Coconut Awards Short Films category:

  1. Short films completed after August 15, 2020, and have not been submitted to previous editions of Hainan Island International Film Festival in any other form or version;
  2. The maximum running time is 15 minutes;
  3. Films accepted to the competition must be in DCP (Digital Cinema Package) format that meets industrial standard for theatrical screening.

The best film will be rewarded with a prize of CNY250,000 (US$38,000). No application fee. 

The application deadline is Sept. 30.
