One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival calls for entries

Deadline September 1st

One World is one of the cornerstones of the People in Need organisation. Since its inception in 1999, it has become the most important festival of its kind in the world and in 2007 it won a special mention from UNESCO for its contribution to human rights education.

People in Need was established in 1992 by a group of war correspondents and foreign correspondents who were no longer satisfied with simply bringing back information to the Czech Republic and therefore began sending out aid. People in Need has gradually established itself as a humanitarian organisation that aims to help in troubled regions and to support the observance of human rights around the world.

In the 25 years it has been in existence, it has become one of the biggest non-profit organisations in Central Europe. It also began devoting itself to education and helping people living in social exclusion.

Each year, the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival screens more than 100 outstanding documentaries from around the world. The topics discussed ranged from political scandals and authoritarian regimes to sustainable development to social and environmental themes. Just as important as the screening was the debate after the screening with guest filmmakers, leading characters, activists and Czech human rights experts.

The 24th One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival (” One World “) will be held in Prague, Czech Republic, from March 21 to April 3, 2022. The festival is divided into seven categories: International Competition, Best Director, Havel Jury Grand Prix for the Defence of Human Rights, Czech Competition, Audience Grand Prix, Student Jury Grand Prix, and Regional Jury Grand Prix. Documentaries made in 2018 and 2019 can participate.

Non-english language films need to include English subtitles. The competition is open to film directors from all over the world.

The entry fee is 20 euros ($22.50).

The deadline is September 1st. Works between September and November can be extended until November 1.
